Equine Welfare Presentation

How to Meet and Exceed Your Horse’s Needs: A Behavior-based Approach to Horse-Keeping
Taught by Sara Matters, Trainer and Behavior Consultant at Training Matters

This presentation will review what research tells us horses need to live a rich life, what gold-standard horse-keeping situations look like, and how to make adjustments in equine environments to meet behavioral needs when problems arise. We will problem solve and devise plans to address behavioral issues through altering environments—stall, paddock, or pasture. We will talk about tweaks that may need to be made in typical boarding or barn setups to take a flexible and changing approach to equine management. For fun, we will practice observing horse behavior with objects provided to them.
