the percheron
We went on an exciting adventure today helping rehome a sweet older Percheron in need. This handsome guy is only 18-20ish, but has worked hard his whole life as a farm horse. The last year or so he's been losing weight and not keeping up with the young, healthy farm horses. He's worked hard and its time for him to enjoy a life of comfort and being pampered. He hasn't had any vet care in his life and we believe with a dental and a fecal and lots of soaked meals will return him to shiny shape. It's time for a bit of spoiling.
Luckily, a wonderful home was looking for a horse at the same time as we learned about his need for a soft landing. Our own volunteer and dear friend Diane, has her nice riding horse (who we also matchmade) but needed a nice companion for him. Most people don't choose a companion older draft horse, usually they go for a cheap pony but Diane's heart is as big as her new horse!! She has a soft spot for these hard-to-place animals that need a gentle home and a life of spoiling.
We LOVE match making! We can't take every horse that needs us, but we do our best to find good homes for those we can. I'm so grateful to our wonderful homes that take in these special care cases. So much love to this happy family!!
